Video-Update Day 3
We have arrived safely in Ny-Ålesund, the world’s northernmost settlement. We are all well and the atmosphere is excellent.
We are waiting for a favourable weather window to set off, so that we have the necessary momentum to complete the journey safely. We want to row as close as possible to the ice, right up to the ice edge at 81° north latitude.
How close we actually get depends on the conditions, because within a radius of about 50 miles of the ice edge, it is mainly the wind that determines our route. If it is too strong, there is a risk that the rowing boat will be driven too close to the ice and we will no longer be able to move away from it under our own power. At the start, the boat weighed about 1.5 tonnes.
Listen to what we’ve seen so far.
